DENTAL HOME CARE NOTES

. has undergone a general anaesthetic today and had a dental prophy procedure performed. In order for your furry friend to make a fantastic recovery, we ask you that you please adhere to the following the post-operative instructions.

  • Please ensure that . is kept in a warm, quiet indoor area to recover from the anaesthetic. It is expected that they will be drowsy tonight and tomorrow, so please allow them to rest.

-. may have some water tonight and a small, soft food meal. If they are still hungry a few hours later and no vomiting has occurred, another small meal may be fed.

  • Please do not continue to offer food if any vomiting occurs. Continual vomiting needs veterinary advice. Please call Jacobs Well Vet 5546 1411.
  • We would expect your pet to be hungry and accepting food the day after the procedure. If this has nothappened, and there is no interest in food, please contact the clinic.

Extractions      YES      NO

It is expected that . may experience a little discomfort after extractions, the same as you would after visiting the dentist. We ask that you feed soft food only for the next 3 - 5 days. We recommend finger-tip size pieces of chicken and / or turkey to allow for easy swallowing and minimal chewing. Please make an appointment for 3 - 5 days for a revisit so we can check the gums are healing and your pet is comfortable.

Once . has recovered from today's dental procedure we now need ongoing dental management to ensure their teeth are kept nice and clean. We recommend:

-OraVet Chews. Provides easy, daily oral care that fights the source of bad breath by reducing plaque and tartar.

  • Brushing. This can be done two - three times a week with a special finger brush and meat flavoured tooth paste.
  • Dental Diets. These are specially formulated dry foods to attack plaque before it turns into tartar. These can be fed every day.
  • Regular Dental checks. Older pet's require more dental care due to the higher incidence of periodontal disease.
