  • Please ensure that . is kept in a warm, quiet indoor area to recover from the anaesthetic. It is expected that theywill be drowsy tonight and tomorrow, so please allow them rest.
  • . may have some water tonight and a small, soft food meal. If they are still hungry a few hours later and novomiting has occured, another small meal may be fed.
  • Please do not continue to offer food if any vomiting occurs. Continual vomiting needs veterinary advice. Please callJacobs Well Vet 5546 1411.

EXERCISE

  • We strongly recommend . has strict rest for the next 7 days following a surgical procedure. This includes runningand jumping.
  • After 5 days, short leadwalks for no more than 10 minutes is acceptable for stimulation to reduce destructivebehaviour such as digging and chewing.
  • Please do not allow . to lie in the dirt or mud.

SUTURE CARE

  • no licking of the surgery site! This does not encourage healing. It actually may lead to infection and also willencourage chewing on the sutures.
  • Persistent licking will require an Elizabethan collar.
  • Please monitor the healing process and check the sutures twice a day. Any swelling, redness, heat or dischargeneeds to be reported to the surgery.
  • Please do not bathe or allow your pet to swim until sutures have been removed. (10-14 days post operatively)

You may notice that the fur has been clipped around the incision site. This is to maintain a clean, sterile area for surgery to be performed. The hair on . legs may also have been clipped and this is for intravenous anaesthetics and drugs to be administered. This will grow back in a few short weeks.
