Dr. Bernd earned his Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Onderstepoort in South Africa in 1999. After a brief period practicing as a veterinarian in Africa, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he spent over 15 years as a veterinary surgeon and branch partner in a small animal practice.

In 2018, he relocated to Australia with his wife and three sons, focusing his work primarily in the Gold Coast and Albury regions for the past seven years.

Dr. Bernd has a strong passion for surgery, particularly in laparoscopic procedures such as desexing, gastropexy, bladder stone removal, and liver biopsy.

He also specializes in orthopaedic surgeries, including cruciate surgeries, Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO), DeAngelis, patella luxation, and fracture repairs.

Committed to staying current with advancements in veterinary medicine, he continually enhances his skills to provide the best evidence based care for his patients.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Bernd is known for his compassion towards animals and their wellbeing. In his free time, he enjoys family outings, gardening, walking his dogs Nala and Scooby, and engaging in 4×4 driving and camping adventures.

Hi! I’m Ruché, and I have been working as a vet nurse since 2023, joining the lovely Jacobs Well Vet team in early 2025. You’ll see me at the clinic over weekends and some weekdays, and in between I will be studying my second year of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Queensland!

I love all aspects of veterinary care, with a particular interest in our special field of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries as well as animal behaviour in general. In the Clinic, you will find me cuddling your fur babies, assisting with procedures and patient care as well as chatting to all our lovely clients in between consults.

When I’m not at work I am in nature, usually at the beach or on a walk with my two adorable Australian Shepherd dogs, Sadie & Harley who you’ll see around on our Instagram page!
